  1. What Camera Video Stream would you select for your CCTV Architecture:
    a. Why would you use MPEG4 and not the MJPEG.
    b. MPEG4 is a very low resolution video stream and you will not be able to see clearly facial features or have clear imagery after play back. You should always test the 2 methods and choose what you like. Most likely you will not accept MPEG4.
    c. NOTE: For your information, MJPEG will require 4 times the storage capacity of the MPEG4.
    d. If for you feel that MPEG4 is an acceptable quality video stream, thus we will not need to go to higher quality IP cameras 1 or 2 megapixels and just settle for the .05 megapixel camera or analog cameras of 480TVL (as a minimum).
    e. Please note, when you spend the money for higher resolution cameras and you use low resolution video stream, it kind of kills the purpose of buying and using higher quality cameras.
    f. In my opinion, you should always use MJPEG Video Stream and no the MPEG4.
  2. What Camera Resolution would you select for your CCTV Architecture Storage Bank:
    a. Example; If the client CCTV design contractor company has proposed several types of cameras ranging from IP and Analog and has mixed range of DVRs with encoders and decoders as well as NVRs for their IP cameras, than please stop using this contractor and find a more professional contractor.
    b. Because of the complexity of some of the CCTV design architecture, it is advisable that you only use 2 or 3 types of cameras for the project. This will make repairs, spare parts, communality of installations more suitable and reliable then having many types of cameras. SOFAB usually advises to use 550 t 600 TVL Analog cameras and for IP camera architecture with only 3 types of IP cameras ranging from 0.5 to 2 megapixels with IR and capability to view in Zero Lux (view in total darkness).
    c. For an IP camera installation architecture, in my opinion, you should always select 1 megapixel (1280x1024) for the Camera resolution. This gives a good average between the 0.5 and the 2 megapixel IP camera range.

  1. Frames per second and storage capacity for their CCTV:
    • Most Consumers request a lower then the basic required storage capacity.
  2. One type or maximum 2 types of camera selections:
    1. As a high security facility, it is always recommended to maintain the single type camera or maximum 2 types of cameras.
    2. This maintains a commonality between the cameras and simplicity in repair and maintenance.
    3. Most maintenance personal can easily maintain a single type with minimum technical knowhow.
    4. This will safe guard you from keeping a large number of spare parts that will be 100% guaranteed to be mixed with other camera parts and thus resulting in delays and loss of surveillance time.
    5. A single type camera selection is used by many of our high profile clients here in Saudi Arabia. This resulted in a quick change over with new cameras in case of fault or failures. In most cases it takes about 15 minutes to do the changeover.
    6. The more complex a camera, the harder they are to maintain and thus require a huge loss of time since they all have to be returned to our factory for repair and adjustment.
    7. Priority is to maintain a sophisticated technical team with proper tools that enable them to maintain all equipment in-house with no time loss.
  3. Thermal Cameras:
    1. Thermal cameras are becoming absolute because of their faults and failures. A heat Suit is now readily available in the market and could cause a sever hazard to the Thermal Camera as the camera becomes blinded by the thermal suit and will not see a heat signature return.
    2. Many of the sophisticated thermal suits can never be detected by the Thermal Camera and render them ineffective. Thus they have included an optical camera along with the Thermal Camera. A customer who purchases such a camera will not benefit because of the following:
      • The Thermal camera is ineffective against camouflaged thermal suits.
      • The Optical camera used along with the Thermal is considered as an effective tool in day light hours or illuminated areas during night hours. Thus the optical lens will not be operable in total darkness as they will rely totally on the Thermal part of the camera and thus fail to secure the facility in question.
  4. SOFAB latest camera provides PTZ 480 TVL SONY High resolution lens and 36 times zoom for day and night viewing. Incorporated in to the frame of the camera, is a double IR system, one for short range of 100 meters viewing range and the second is for 800 meters viewing. With this camera, a person can be indentified from 300 to 500 meters
  5. SOFAB Most sophisticated camera provides PTZ 540 TVL with very high resolution lens and 60 times zoom for day and night viewing and with a special low light enhancement system. It has a very powerful IR Illuminator with 800 meters visibility and more. With this camera, person facial features can be indentified from 800 in total darkness and through haze and light fog.

Are there any quarries while going for site inspection to get the information(distance and control room location). Are there any points I should notice/observe during my visit?

Points to be aware of while you are doing a site survey:

  1. Please consider your eyes as the camera lens. Look for any:
    • Possible Camera View Obstruction, trees, buildings, mountains
  2. Please consider the excavation obstruction. Look for any problems that we may face during excavation like:
    • Trees, Drive Way, Building, gates, or anything that could cause a problem when we go to do the installation.

The airport is asking if the camera can be viewed from two location (control room, and air traffic control tower) at the same time. Please let me know if you need any information to answer this question.
Note: they have a fibber optic cable connecting the two rooms.

  1. To answer the questions about seeing the cameras from 2 locations, please ask them to send you the exact distance from the (control room, and air traffic control tower). With this information, we can probably solve the problem for them. In this case, we will ONLY use Cat6 UTP Type Balden brand.
  2. The fiber network they have is not part of our system and we are not able to connect to an unknown system. If they need to use their Fiber System, they will have to contact their Fiber Optic Provider and they will be able to do this for them.
    1. If they Want us to use their fiber optic cables, we will be able to do so, but 3 things must happen for this to work.
      1. Provide us with the Fiber Cable Technical information like:
        • Is it a Single Mode or Multi Mode,
        • Number of Fiber Strands.
        • Type of Fiber Optic Cable Jumpers they are using
        • Do they have a professional Engineer who can do the Fiber Fusion (Fiber Splicing and rejoining)
        • Do they have the Fiber Fusion Machine.
      2. Additional Equipment is required to be added to the Quotation Proposal (Additional Cost).
      3. This means that their Fiber cable will only be used for our CCTV Camera dedicated USE. No other services can be added to the existing Fiber Cable.
      4. If they like, we can or they can put new Fiber Optic cable per our requirements and we will bring our additional equipment for the connection.

There are 2 Important points we need to know before preparing the CCTV Cameras for a Client's Palaces:

  1. We need the general layout of the cameras at the Palaces so we can determine how many Encoders we need to propose, because if they do not give us this information, we will have to propose one encoder per camera and this can be very expensive. So they have to give us distances on the layout as a general reference.
    a. If they gave us a general layout on paper, we can put several cameras on a single Encoder and this can save them so much money. Note, we can put up to 4 cameras on a Single encoder or 8 cameras or 16 cameras (4 or 8 or 16 Encoder will operate on a single fiber cable). When we do this, we can save them money by reducing the number of encoders and also reduce the number of fiber optic cable used at site. This can mean the saving of about 30% value of the project.

  2. We urgently need the location of control room and sub control room as this will also enable us to use a LAN to connect them if they are close. If they are far, we will have to use Fiber cable. The difference of equipment is really too much for a generic proposal. Thus please give us the proposed control room position on a general map layout. Please give distances on the layout as a general reference.
